Droknar's Armor
Well, I have made it to Droknar's and am deciding on which armor to choose. I noticed that, for example, pyromancer's armor doesn't make you better at using fire magic, just boosts your defense against this. I've seen throughout these forums that fire, earth, air, water, everything can work good if you use the right build. So, if you don't get any boosts for a certain magic type with that armor, would it be smartest to go with Pyromancer's armor because a lot of elementalists like to use fire in PvP? If not, which armor do you guys like to use?

An Outsider's Point of View
I may be way out of line here, but this is my "outsider's point of view". I don't play PvP, GvG nor do I currently have (I did have a one point) a Primary Elementalist. But I wish to congratulate you on making it to Droknar's Forge.
However, you should take a look at what you will be facing most. My Ranger has protection vs Cold. The reason being I was facing more monsters using cold spells on me than any other attacks. Also, as a Ranger (you may wish to consider this too), I have Winter (turns all elemental damage into Cold damage).
In the Southern Shiverpeaks, you will be facing more cold than anyother elemental attacks. In Fire Island, you will be facing only Fire (Greater Conflaguration - Ranger Elite - will turn all physical attacks into Fire Damage) Rangers are requested in this area because they can use the Nature Ritual Winter. This is because the denizens of the area are more susceptable to cold than fire.
Earth damage can be harsh, but some earth spells ignore armor, so armor that protects you vs Earth damage may not be that useful. Air damage can be a pain too (armor penetration, the higher the defense, the more damage it is capable of doing - then it would otherwise)
If you know that you will be facing more Fire than not, and there is no Ranger with Winter out on the field, armor vs fire isn't a bad idea.
Hope this helps somewhat.

I agree with Padrino that you should be getting the armor to give the most defense against the most popular element. These being as listed air, fire and earth (when talking about damage dealing). Personally I worry most about getting spiked. Spikes are usually quick, fast and relatively hard to avoid (assuming the other player has a good spike build). However, AoE is a little easier to avoid, if you know what your doing. Also, air and earth are generally just more popular PvP builds. I'm not saying that a fire build won't work, but that more players are using earth and air in PvP. For these reasons I would get the air or earth depending on "the one that is the sluttiest". Disclaimer: This is just my opinion based on limited PvP, but a lot of second hand stories.

I went with Hydro partly for looks and also figuring I'd be spending a lot of time in the mountains and when in the Fire Islands there would often be a ranger with Winter and so it would help there as well.
Here's a snapshot of gold dyed hydro for reference:

I took air for 2 reasons:
1. I think it looks coolest, even better looking than the 15k armor.
2. Most PvP elems use lightning, so it's nice to have the extra armor.
The main reason I took it was for looks, because as you correctly stated, having it doesnt boost that elemental's stats anyway. So I walk around with hte lightning armor and the pyro headgear

Thank you for all the information guys. Personally I think air looks the coolest too, so I might get that for starters. But, since it sounds like the good farming takes place in the shiverpeaks and rings of fire, I'll save up for a second set which will be hyro.

You never played as a ele, the armor looks great and used for Hydra farming. Dont put off people from buying armor they would like to buy. Also with the armor dyed black it looks amazing.
With my 1,5k set of Pyromancer armor i made over 50k on items and money being a Hyrda farmer,Now im a 55hp ele doing UW run's got fow and other 15k sets of armor. I go for Pyromancer armor for Hyrda farming you get gold items and lots of money out of it. with Pyromancer armor you have a extra 20armor vs fire and elemental attacks(10+10) and combine earth magic for even more armor. Hydra famer style. lol

Do you have access to the Factions campaign? If yes, then go to Lion's Arch and travel over to cantha. Get your armour there in Kaineng. Reason for it, Tempest armour +10 AL while enchanted. Beats the vs Element if you ask me.
If however you can't, I enjoyed the Pyromancer armour a lot. Didn't matter all that much to me since I try to avoid getting attacked

Actually I do have an ele. I just can't stand the 15k pyromancers. The 1.5k looks way better in my opinion. Any btw, i've only really seen crappy dyed ones so thats probably why. I'm sry if it sounded like it shouldn't get purchased.

Get +Health armour or +10 while enchanted if you have access to Kaineng.
I don't like Pyromancer 15k either, and farming 24/7 doesn't make you an expert in your class.

lol catch the boat to cantha and pick your look.
I got Air chest armor and fire everwhere else. My theory is lightning hits your chest and fire dmg gets you everywhere at once. Am i wrong?
